3rd International Conference Modern Culture and Communication, MCC-2021

18-20 October 2021. Jelenia Góra (Poland)

The 3rd International Conference «Modern Culture and Communication, MCC-2021» was held at the Karkonosze State School of Higher Education, October 18-20, 2021. The conference was organized by the University of Wroclaw, KPSW, CBIFK (Poland) and St. Petersburg State University (Russia).

The purpose of the conference was to discuss topical issues related to cultural transformation in context of the ways of communication is developing, which are the product of the modern information society. The target audience includes researchers of trends in the development of various aspects of the culture of modern society, university professors, employees of research organizations, graduate students and students.

In 2021, the main topic of the conference was "Thought and Image".

The problem of relation between thoughts and images is one of the most difficult to deal with in the history of thought and in the modern scientific disciplines. It concerns one of the most important and nodal areas of human activity, the relationship between the processes of imagination and thinking, understanding and action, perception and ideas, orientation in the environment and impact on it.

If contemporary culture is becoming an ever more visual culture, deeper understanding of the image, imaging and imageries becomes all the more important in an attempt to define changes in social reality, the role of an individual in these changes and their impact on it. The relations between thinking, language, concept and the image were understood very differently - from the refutation of the meaning of the image, the critique of the role of figurative forms in cognitive acts in favor of the domination of meanings grasped in concepts, to noticing the inalienable potential and matrixing of the image for all cognition and human being in the world in general. Nowadays, visual and verbal codes are seen in their autonomy, but also in their interaction, the overlapping of activities of various modules of the human mind in the processes of orientation in the environment and influencing it. The image is therefore crucial for the operation of memory, imagination, creating autobiographical memory, cultural memory as records of experiences, it influences thinking and it creates certain forms of thinking. It was researched both in philosophy itself and in many other disciplines - psychology (coding of experiences), ethnology, anthropology (culture-forming activity), sociology, social philosophy (visual sociology, the role of social imaginaries).
